Short bio:
Since 2014 Ms. Barbara Pesce-Monteiro is the Director of UNDP Brussels as well as the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to the European Union. She also coordinates 22 different UN agencies such as OCHA, DPA/DPKO en UNDG in their advocacy with the EU. From 2010 until 2014 she worked with the United Nations as Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative for Cuba. From 1999 until 2010 she worked successively as Deputy Resident Representative for UNDP in Nicaragua, Senior Deputy Resident Representative for UNDP in Guatemala and Country Director for UNDP in Colombia. In the 1990s she was active for UNDP in Angola and at the headquarters of UNCDF. She started her career as a Junior Professional Officer with UNDP Mexico. Ms. Pesce-Monteiro has a major in International Political Sciences from the La Sapienza University in Italy as well as a master in Rural Development Planning from the East Anglia University in the United Kingdom.
